98% of Bayan students come from Bahrain and neighboring GCC countries. As such, the Bayan education is delivered in both English and Arabic. The school prides itself in having developed strong bilingual leaders that have an equally strong national identity. The Bayan family atmosphere is a description echoed by everyone on campus, this supportive environment between students faculty and administrative staff is one of the main drivers of its continuous achievements.
Mission, Vision & Core Values
Bahrain Bayan School provides students with a comprehensive bilingual education - rooted in Islamic values, Arab identity, and Bahraini culture. We develop internationally minded students with confidence in their abilities who embrace their responsibilities as national and global citizens. At Bayan, no idea is too great to explore or too small to ignore. There’s only one word to describe that kind of thinking: BIG - We aspire to inspire!
Bilingual Co-education School
We believe that a nation of bilinguals, where a diversity of tongues and cultures are embraced is the true movement towards prosperity.
The Bahrain Bayan School (BBS), established in 1982 by Dr. May Al Otaibi and Mrs. Kathleen Acher Kaiksow, is an independent, national, non-profit, co-educational, bilingual school in Arabic and English, for Kindergarten - Gr. 12 students. It is accredited and licensed by the Bahrain Ministry of Education, under the Bahrain Government law, accredited by The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and by the Bahrain Education & Training Quality Authority (BQA) as an “outstanding” School.
Preschool Curriculum
The Pre-School Program at Bayan School promotes positive relationships among all children and encourages each child’s sense of individual self-worth and belonging as part of a community. The curriculum encourages - social, emotional, physical, language (both Arabic and English), and cognitive learning and development.
The program is a dual language program and students alternate classroom instruction in these languages every other day. In addition, within the program the subjects of music and physical education (PE) are taught by qualified instructors. Children are given experiences that strengthen growth across a broad range of developmental and content areas.
Children are provided with learning experiences that allow for exploration, creative expression, as well as opportunities to learn individually and in groups according to their developmental needs and interests.
Teachers’ thorough knowledge of each child helps them to plan appropriately challenging curricula and to design instruction that responds to each child’s strengths and needs. The program maintains collaborative relationships with each child’s family to support children’s development in all settings. The kindergarten program (KG1 and KG2) emphasizes early literacy and numeracy development with an aim to prepare children with a strong entry into Grade 1 in the Primary School.
Primary Curriculum
Throughout Primary School our curriculum is committed to students achieving mastery in both English and Arabic. Students spend half of each day in an Arabic classroom, and the other half in an English classroom.
Grade offerings throughout the primary program are based on the AERO standards in English, Math, and Science. These standards are aligned with research-based trends in worldwide curriculum development. AERO provides a framework for curriculum consistency across grades K-12 and for stability of curriculum.
Teachers collaborate and develop units of study grounded in the standards so that students experience complete, in-depth, and thorough learning.
Bahrain Bayan School also offers a strong Arabic curriculum and the required government syllabus in Social Studies, Religion, and Government. Music, Art, Technology and Physical Education also play a strong role in the curriculum.
All curricular offerings are supported by appropriately aligned resources and the school’s library with a collection of 38,000 items (approximately 17,800 of those items in Arabic and 20,650 in English). Curricular experiences are supported through field trip opportunities throughout the primary years and an extensive after-school activities program is intentionally aligned to enhance the day time classroom curriculum.
Secondary Curriculum
