Welcome to Hawar International School
Hawar International School (HIS) was established in 2001 by a group of dedicated Bahraini professionals wishing to provide a bilingual education of excellence from Nursery and KG to Grade 12 in a learner friendly environment while preserving the culture and heritage of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Islamic society. HIS has introduced the Cambridge curriculum from 2018-2019 for K - 8 and has started the IGCSE curriculum for Grade 9 from 2019 - 2020.
Hawar International School is a candidate school* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high-quality programs of international education that share a powerful vision.**
*Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org
**Mission Statement from the IB
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
HIS provides special needs education and facilities for students with physical and learning needs to help support them during their education. HIS put great emphasis on nurturing skills and encouraging important life values. HIS aims to ensure that each pupil gets a well-rounded education that will equip them for the challenges faced in the world today and for tomorrow.
Curriculum
In the last academic year 2018-19 the school has implemented Cambridge curriculum for grades K - 8 for all English taught subjects. In the start of this academic year 2019-20 HIS has introduced IGCSE curriculum for Grade 9. For Arabic subjects the school follows the standards set by the Bahrain Ministry of Education.
In the KG section there is a 50/50 split between Arabic and English subjects allowing for literacy and numeracy in both languages. The KG2 follows the Ministry of Bahrain curriculum for Arabic subjects whilst for English subjects it is following the Cambridge curriculum.

Kindergarten
Welcome to Hawar International School Nursery where we guarantee your child will have an enjoyable and excellent start to their education. The nursery is housed in its own fully equipped building within the school grounds. We welcome children from the age of 3 years old. All of our staff are fully qualified and our nursery has earned high praise from School Inspectors, Parents, and School Governors. Quality Assurance, November 2010 reported "Children are enthusiastically welcomed into the setting, they are valued and respected because staff ensure that each child has the opportunity to engage in all aspects of the curriculum, whether they attend daily or on a part-time basis. The provision of 'helping children make a positive contribution' is outstanding. We aim to have an environment which is welcoming for you and your child; for parents and staff to work together to enable each child to grow in confidence as they learn to play/work within the security of our nursery. The nursery accepts children from 3 years. Qualified nursery staff provides a carefully planned and well structured program of activities where the emphasis is on learning through play, enjoyment and fun.
Elementary School
Life in the Elementary School is challenging, fast-paced, and fun. Our educational programs are designed to help students develop the skills, understanding, and attitudes that will support their success in school and in life. As we move through the processes of inquiry, discussion, decision-making and reflection, students develop an understanding of themselves, of other people and of our world.
These talents and dispositions are fostered in a secure, supportive environment characterized by honesty, respect and caring. By putting students at the center of their own learning, it is our hope that they develop the courage, optimism and resilience to dream big and persist in the face of obstacles.
Elementary students study Arabic Language, Arabic Social Studies, Islamic Studies, English, Math and Science. Lessons are also taken in Art, PE and ICT.
Middle School
We support and encourage each Middle School student on the road to independence. This is a time of great growth, exploration and personal discovery and we believe it is our role to inspire in our students the courage to reach their individual potential.
We believe that every child can learn and that our diversity will teach us about perspective, culture, differences, similarities, compassion, conflict, and consensus. Experiences at school will help students understand their own values, goals and views of the world and help them become more confident and capable.
We encourage each student to enjoy their time at HIS, to learn from heir peers and to embrace their ability to make a difference in their own life and the lives of others. We look forward to and celebrate the opportunity to prepare our Middle School students for a changing and increasingly global world in the 21st century.
We believe that young adults love to learn and thrive when challenged. We believe that when students are well-challenged, they will rise to the occasion; when students are treated with respect, they will respect themselves and others; and when students are given opportunities to make choices and explore, they will learn about themselves and their role in the world around them.
Our teachers, curriculum, resources, and programs all contribute to facilitating a meaningful transition into adolescence. We want every student to progress to the High School with the knowledge, self-awareness, and self-confidence to pursue their dreams and enhance the lives of others.
In the Middle School students study Arabic Language, Arabic Social Studies, Islamic Studies, English, Math, Science and Social Studies. Lessons are also taken in Art, PE and ICT.
High School
Students in the High School engage in a rigorous course of study that incorporates the 21st Century skills students will need as they move toward independent life in university and beyond. With these skills and a well-developed sense of optimism and integrity, students have the courage to question convention and think differently about the challenges facing themselves and our world.
This entrepreneurial spirit is fostered in a structured, yet intimate, environment. The High School is large enough to offer many academics to extracurricular opportunities, yet small enough so that all students become well-known by their teachers and peers. Students have the opportunity to develop and pursue their passions and truly have an impact on their areas of interest. As a result, each student stands out because talents and gifts are allowed to flourish in a unique way.
In the High School, students are encouraged to pursue their dreams and enhance the lives of others. There are a number of clubs, sports, and leadership opportunities for students including: student council and Model United Nations as well as a variety of special interest clubs.
In the High School students study Arabic Language, Arabic Social Studies, Islamic Studies, English, Math, Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and Social Studies including Business Studies and Economics. Lessons are also taken in PE and ICT and in Grade 12 students are prepared for university with a Careers Education Development Program (CEDP).
Application Process
The criteria for admitting new students to Hawar International School are based upon several factors. These include:
- The past records of the applicant from his previous school
- Passing the entrance exams,
- Passing an interview,
- Having a good behavior record in the previous school.
- For students with Special Educational Needs, an educational psychologist’s report is required before entry to HIS will be considered. The school has the right to request this information if the school believes the child has learning needs based on test results and previous school reports.
Availability in the appropriate Grade level, students will be placed on a waiting list when there is no availability. Priority is given to the brothers and sisters of HIS students, and to the applicants who have the best results.
Once a new student joins HIS, the student and the parents must abide by all school rules and policies.
Registration and Exam Fees
Subject to passing the entrance exam, the parent or the guardian will pay a registration fee once.
School Fees
The current school fees can be found on the school website and are paid in three instalments:
The first instalment is payable in the middle of the Second Semester (in April) for regular students. New students pay the first instalment during registration.
- The second installment is payable at the beginning of the first semester (in September).
- The third installment is payable at the end of the first semester (in December).
Please note that the misplacement or non-receipt of the original invoice will not be considered a valid reason for failure to pay the fees by the due date. No exam certificates, school reports or transfer documents will be released until all outstanding fees have been settled.
If more than one child from a family is enrolled AND the full amount owing for ALL enrolled children is not settled by the invoice due date, the school reserves the right to withdraw the places for ALL siblings in that family who are enrolled at the school. In these circumstances the school may cancel the places allocated to the family and, additionally, offer them to new applicants for places at the school. There is a demand for places and we have waiting lists in most year groups. The fees are payable in full, regardless of sickness or absence for other reasons.
Refund of School Fees
Registration fee is non-refundable. In the event of the parent wishing to withdraw their son/daughter from the school, the following will apply:
- The school must be informed in writin
- If the withdrawal is made before the end of June, the school will keep 50% of the fees up to that date
- If the withdrawal is made from the beginning of July until mid-August; the school will keep 80% of the fees up to that date
- If the withdrawal is made between 16 August up to the first day of the new academic year, no refund will be made up to that date
- If the withdrawal is made during the academic year, the school has the right to retain all fees even if it was paid in full.
