ABOUT RIA INSTITUTE

RIA Caters to the needs of mainstream learners as well as students with Special Educational Needs offering a year round educational and 'mini' respite service.

With the mission statement of 'Education for All' and promoting awareness of living in the community with particular regard to persons with physical and/or intellectual disabilities, RIA Caters to the needs of mainstream learners as well as students with Special Educational Needs offering a year round educational and 'mini' respite service. RIA teaches in both English and Arabic. Our dedicated staff are at the heart of RIA and Kids Castle Nursery. The nursery curriculum is based on the UK EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage). We are a 'melting pot' of nationalities, languages, and cultures and together we work to make every day a special experience for the students and their families.

HISTORY

RIA was created in 1999 to cater to the needs of students with Autism, who might otherwise slip through the cracks in the school system.

It was founded by Dr. Emad Al Attar and his wife Christine Gordon. Seeing the way that their autistic son was needlessly ostracized at pre-school because of his lack of communication skills, they set out to create a place where all children could feel safe and loved whilst gaining, a first class education.

Over the years RIA has steadily developed and established itself as a quality Inclusive Education Centre. Recognising the need to work toward the goal of inclusive education and society, sensitive to everyone's needs has become the main focus of our mission statement. Kids Castle (our nursery department) is a fully integrated mainstream nurser.

In the space of a few short years the wheel has come full circle. More and more schools in Bahrain are opening up to Integration and parents of our normal learning students are proud to see their children as part of the RIA family. Families of former students are our best advertisement, and some are even coming back to volunteer!

SPECIAL NEEDS

Students have an individual, educational and social learning plan. Working hand in hand with the student's family, we build the learning path that will be of the most benefit to the students' emotional, intellectual and physical needs.

Therapy sessions are based on the ABA and TEACCH method. Our staff have also been trained by Fred Donaldson who developed the 'Original Play method'. We have daily Brain Gym and Music & Movement classes and every student, is encouraged to take part in. Wherever possible the individual plan includes time spent in a social setting .

Students are taught the basics of a normal British or Bahrain Government System education; English,(or Arabic) Maths, Social Studies, Environment Studies, Computer Studies , Arts and Crafts, Music, Cookery, land life skills, in an age appropriate manner.

MAINSTREAM

Kids Castle Nursery provides young learners a fun and stimulating place where they are encouraged to explore and express their ideas and thoughts and celebrate their individuality.

It is important that students feel included, and secure, and parents and teachers develop an effective partnership to assist in good social and emotional development. We incorporate music and movement, 'Mini me yoga' into their daily routine which has proven so popular that other schools and nurseries have requested training.

HOMEWORK is NOT usually given however extra study books are available for purchase in the office (subject to availability)., however Twinkle recourse has many varied printable educational materials to choose from. It is advisable to read with your child or listen to your child reading a story to you, or talk to you about his or her day, or just a general chat. Encourage your child to work independently such as colouring or tracing over shapes and letters. You may even use flash cards with simple words.

• The Nursery accepts students from 2 years of age
• The academic year runs from September to June
• Winter Term : September , October, November , December
• Spring Term : January, February, March/April
• Summer Term : April, May June, July
• Timings are : 8.00 AM. – 2.00 PM
• The gate opens at 7.30 AM No student should be left before this time as there is no adult supervision available.
• Students should be picked up promptly. If you are going to be delayed please inform the office to avoid any unneccesary anxiety placed on the child waiting to be collected.
• An 'after School' baby sitting service is available. Please contact the office further details.
• All bags, clothing and water bottles should be clearly marked or labeled. Please take time to do this to reduce the risk of your child's items being lost.

NOTES:

• Stationery fee BD 25/-.
• School Timings: 8.00 am - 2.00 pm
• Payment in 2 Installments for Nursery, LKG and Prep classes.

• Fee Payment Dates for Special Education Classes:

1. 1st Installment: Along with Registration fee.
2. 2nd Installment: 1-15 Dec 2019.
3. 3rd Installment: 1-15 Mar 2020.

• Payment for extra classes (speech therapy, occupational therapy etc.) to be paid in advance before the beginning of the month.
• Monthly transportation fee to be paid in advance before the beginning of the month.
• Late fee fine: 500 fils per day.
• 2 recent passport size photographs of the child.
• CPR copy of child and parent.
• Special Offers:

1. For Special Ed classes - Registration fee free if you pay annually.
2. For Nursery, LKG, Prep - Registration fee BD 75/- only, if you pay annually.

• Fee once paid will not be refunded.
