Shaikha Hessa Girls’ School was established in 2001 as the first private, all girls’ school in Bahrain. SHGS provides an international curriculum with International General Secondary Education Certificate (IGCSE) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP). It celebrated the successful graduation of the fifth cohort since 2008.

SHGS offers high quality academic programs that promote leadership, with an emphasis on both value of integrating the latest in technology and the importance of multi-cultural understanding. SHGS is a National School with an international environment that emphasizes Arabic and Islamic values. We pride ourselves to have in our school community over twenty-four nationalities.

SHGS is recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is fully accredited (2007) by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, USA (MSA), is a full member (2011) of the Council of International Schools (CIS), and a candidate (2012) for full joint accreditation with CIS and MSA. The school is authorized (2011) by the Edexcel for the International General Secondary Education Certificate (IGCSE) and International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as an IB Diploma Awarding Institution (2007). SHGS is proud to be the first IB Diploma World School for Girls in Bahrain.

Admission Procedure for Nursery - Grade 1

1) APPLICATION

Acceptance of applications to Shaikha Hessa Girls’ School for places in Nursery through to Grade 1 are dependent on the student being age appropriate:

Being age appropriate for entry to the grade level for which they are applying (applicable for Nursery – Grade 1 entry as per table below)

Year of Birth/Age to be completed by December 31 in the year of entry as per Ministry of Education guidelines

The parent/guardian should fill and sign the application form and return it to the school along with:

• BD 20/- application fee

• 1 current passport photos

• copy of the student and both parents’ Smart Card (both sides), Saudi family card or GCC ID card

• copy of the student’s passport (passport nationality should match nationality stated on smart card)

• Show original birth certificate (a copy will be made by us)

• A copy of her vaccination booklet

• All students applying for KG2 and Grade 1 need to take the Academic Needs Assessment Form (provided in Application Folder) to the current school to be filled and delivered sealed to Shaikha Hessa Girls’ School or faxed to the school (fax number 17750700).

Only after meeting the above requirements, will the student be invited to take placement tests

Note 1: The school follows the guidelines of the Ministry of Education (Private Education) for age appropriateness for classes.

Note 2: All parents should meet with our school doctor before the students join the school and will be asked questions related to the student’s health and family health history to complete their health file.

As per Ministry guidelines, entrants to Grade 1 should complete a health examination at their local health centre.

Note 3: Parents must provide the school with copies of any document (passport/ID card) once renewed 

2) ACCEPTANCE

To be accepted into the grade level applied for, a student must:

• Show competency in the placement test in Maths, English and Arabic for the grade level applied for

• The school must be convinced it is in the student’s best interest to join the school

• Parents will be notified by SMS, email or by phone of the results within one week of testing as to whether the student is accepted or not. The Admissions Committee’s decision is final.

• On acceptance, the registration and development fees should be paid immediately (please refer to the School Fees sheet). The first instalment of tuition is due in April in advance. Unfortunately, the school cannot guarantee places in case of delay of payment.

Note 1: Priority for places goes to sisters of students currently enrolled in the school, Board members’ children and graduates of SHGS (providing they meet entry requirements). The remaining places will go to students who show competency in their placement tests.

Note 2: Students who have met all entry requirements may be put on a waiting list should the grade level applied for to be full. The parents will be notified should this status change.

Note 3: The school may revoke its acceptance at any time should it become aware that information has been withheld or falsely presented to the school.

3) ENROLLMENT

Only the names of fully enrolled students will be shown on class lists and allowed to attend classes in September. The requirements for enrolment are:

• Submission of application form, photos, ID documents, Academic Needs Form from previous school (KG2 & Grade 1 applicants only), previous report card copies.

• Application, Registration, Development Fees and First Instalment of Tuition Fees have been paid in full.

• Immunization record has been submitted and a follow up interview has been completed with the school’s doctor. Ministry Health examination (Grade 1) has been completed.

• All Ministry paperwork has been completed and submitted.

SCHOOL FEES

All registered students must pay school fees. Delayed payments may result in the student being removed from class/school.

• Cheque return charges is BD 20

• Tuition fee is payable in three quarterly instalments. Fee structure is mentioned below:

• Application fees of BD 20/-, Registration fees of BD 180/- and the Development Fees of BD 200/- are payable for the new students only.

• Books & Stationery fees, Educational Program such as IBDP, IGSCE fees will be charged separately and not included in the Tuition Fees.

• All Tuition fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If the 1st installment of the tuition fees for the next academic year is paid before the due date and the student withdraws within one month of payment, the parent will be entitled to receive the full refund of the 1st installment paid in the month of April. After one month BD 500/- is deductible from the fees and remaining will be refunded. No refund is applicable after the start of academic year

FEE COLLECTION PROCEDURE

A) Accounts department will send the invoices to parents through students by hand and the copy of the same invoice through post also about informing the fee instalment.

B) Reminder SMS are sent to remind parents about the due date of instalments.

FEE DEFAULTERS

A) Reminder letters for paying pending fees is sent to parents

B) Reminder SMS

C) Letters are sent to parents informing them that if payment is not settled down the student’s report card will be held by the school

D) The grades of students with outstanding fees will not be disclosed during the parents’ teachers’ conference.

E) Reminder Phone calls are made to follow up with the fee payment.

F) After seven reminders sand if the payment is not made, the student will not be allowed to attend school.

School Uniform

Please check with the designated shops for the appropriate SHGS uniform

1. Skirt (length of skirt should be below the knee) or trousers with the School’s polo t-shirt with the logo embroidered on the sleeve.

2. Bermuda shorts are allowed on condition they meet the acceptable length requirements (length must be below the knee).

3. Tight pants/skirts are not allowed.

4. Only plain white t- shirts are to be worn under the school blouse.

5. During the winter months the navy blue School jacket with school logo may be worn , plain white, black and grey jackets are also allowed.

6. Hats, sunglasses and bandanas may be worn outside, in the school play grounds. They should not be worn inside the school building or in the classrooms.

SHGS Sports/ P.E Uniform

Students are expected to wear the PE uniform on PE days only. The PE uniform consists of a white long/short sleeved “Puma” t-shirt with school’s training suit. The new SHGS training suit is now available from the designated shops. The training suit is gray for G6 to 12 students.

Footwear

Students should wear closed shoes or trainers. For safety reasons, sandals, high heels, flip-flops or crocs will not be allowed at any time. Black shoes are recommended but not a must.

STUDENT ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TO AND FROM THE SCHOOL

School hours are from 07:50 - 14:35 on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 07:50 to 13:30 on Tuesdays.

• Supervision at school will start at 07:30.

• The school will not be responsible for students who arrive before 07:30.

• Similarly, departure time will be no later than 14:35 unless students are involved in a sponsored activity.

• All gates will be opened to receive students in the morning. We recommend that younger students be dropped off in the Kindergarten parking lot which is open from 07:30 to 08:15. After 08:15 all students must be dropped off at the main gate.

• Kindergarten students will be picked up from the KG building after school at 12:30.

• All other students will be picked up at the designated doors in the Elementary building, at 14:35.
